My first month at St. James' Binnaguri was full of adaptations and activity. Efforts to bring a radical change in myself, compounded by the demands of a new life at a new place... St. James' taught me a lot and I am very happy I was willing to learn.
In the first month, we had a class-wise Declamation competition. The topic given was "Faith" The teacher said we were free to use any medium of expression, but it should not be less than three minutes. Of course, everybody had a lot of things in mind, from movies to cartoon strips and what not... In the end, the criteria of three minutes made most of them curtail themselves to essays. There were three exceptions. Sneha Sharma had prepared a movie. Simple theme, no masala... still short of three minutes. But the genius that she was, she added the school song in the end to make up. Then Upasana had a song. It was a poem basically, but after every stanza, she would repeat the first stanza as a pretense that it was a song. So she had three minutes completed.
Third (as you may have guessed) was me... I had a poem as well. As soon as I said, it is a poem, the teacher glared at me... Possibly he thought I had meant to impress him since he taught Literature. That was rather coincidence. He asked me, is it long enough to last three minutes? I said, possibly. Let's see if it touches three minutes. Please time yourself (and go slow. :P )
A Grain of Mustard Seed
“Do not be afraid to trust an unknown future to a known God”
Faith is the path to God
Faith connects us to the Almighty Lord
Faith gives us enormous strength
Faith makes a person close to saints
Faith is a heavenly voice
Faith makes the heart rejoice.
When you’ve lost the battle, faith makes you regain
When you’ve given up in despair, faith brings you up again.
Faith as small as a mustard seed
Can turn wonders around
Firm faith like a tough mustard seed
Can make you feel safe and sound
A tiny mustard seed can grow
Into so big a tree
Faith is your strength, faith is the portent
Faith is your final friend.
In the garden of life, trust yourself first
Trust Gods and parents and friends
Trust your neighbors and even strangers
Have faith on all as saints.
I know there is the Heaven above,
A voice reluctant to hear my prayers
I trust Him who I owe my every bread
Who protects me from all dangers.
There are my parents who brought me up
Whose morale is so high and heart so big
Who always give a hand for help, a word of encouragement
When I am most in need of a shoulder to weep.
There are my friends, who always support me
I trust them for their honesty and help
I believe in them for their cooperation and company
They only reflect my second self.
Faith creates miracles no doubt
But not without the faith in yourself
Unless I help myself first
How can God help me out of a test?
Rudyard Kipling says;
IF you can keep your
head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too…
…Yours is the Earth
and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man, my son!
I know there is the Heaven above,
My parents and friends nigh me
I know there is my inner voice
All of whom will definitely help me
Hence, I love life with faith
Have faith in thy Lord
Faithfully discharge your duties as a Man
Which lies in your duty to God.
